Devils Squeeze One Out in Tampa
A Big 3-2 victory for the Devils. Two goals for Brian Gionta, and one by David Clarkson on a brilliant feed by John Madden.
Four consecutive ROAD wins for New Jersey. They come home for Dallas, Montreal, Atlanta, Boston and Washington. Consecutively.
I'm scheduled to go Friday (MTL), Sunday (ATL) and the Friday afterwards (WSH).
8 Points out of 10 is particularly possible for this stand. Hell, 10 out of 10 is if Brodeur keeps playing at his God-ly standards. No Elias for 2 nights in a row and 2 wins.

Devils Get a Huge Win over Pens 3-2
What a game. The Devils save their season with a huge win over Pittsburgh 2-1. Zach Parise got both goals on the power play. Marty Brodeur played a fantastic game, only an Evgeni Malkin goal off a redonkulous turnover by Johnny Oduya (sigh) kept him from the shutout.
Great game, including a key 5-on-3 kill by the Devils in the third period.
Devils take on the Thrashers on Friday at 7.

Devils Finally Win #500 for Marty
Marty gets big wins against the Failures. Period. Exclamation point.

Devils Win 4-1, Doc Emrick > Sam Rosen
Well, I'm sure the suicide watch is off for a lot of happy New Jerseyans tonight, and somewhere in Western Canada, the Pelley family appreciates the gesture of the greatest American hockey play-by-play voice of a generation.
The Devils have gotten points in 4 of their last 5 games now, since the opening rock loss to the Senators. They beat the Flyers in front of a tad under 15,000 in downtown Brick City. It was a game filled with sticks going all over the place, cross checks to the throat, hits from behind, and some of all 3 three of those actions going un-penalized.
After a first-period power-play goal from Philly's Mike Richards, the Devils got their act in gear after blonking on a double-minor power play. When Karel Rachunek had a shot dubbed, it careemed right to Brian Gionta, and with Marty Biron oblivious to the puck's location, Gionta practically had a 4 x 6 to shoot at, and he made no mistake.
Off the ensuing faceoff, the Devils kept the heat on. A long-ranger from Paul Martin? Stopped by Biron. A rebound from Jay Pandolfo? Same result. Dainius Zubrus' 3rd chance? BINGO! ZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBI gets his first goal as a Devil to make it a 2-1 NJ lead. Good for Zubrus, I hope he keeps it up.
And whadda' ya know, he did! 5 minutes later, he crossed the deep slot and ripped a shot off the paraphernelia of Biron and into the white paint behind the red line. Two for ZUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBRUS and it was 3-1 Devils after period #1. A shocker.
Early 2nd period. A broken play in the neutral zone sees Sergei Brylin handing off the puck to a surging Rod Pelley. The rookie raced into the Philly zone and ripped a backhander between the legs of Biron for his first National Hockey League goal to make it 4-1. Doc Emrick noted that Pelley's family was likely watching, and stayed silent while PA Announcer Kevin Clark announced it as Pelley from Brylin at 2:48 of Period 2. That was also it for Biron, as he was ably replaced by Antero Nittymaki, who was solid in replacement.
The game stayed pretty stoic to the end. 2 fights occured, an even brawl between Riley Cote and Aaron Asham, and another draw from Sheldon Brookbank and Ben Eager. The Devils are now at 14 points, 1 point behind Pittsburgh for 4th place in the Atlantic, and up to a tie for 10th with Florida in the Eastern Conference. They take on the division rival Islanders at the Mausoleum on Saturday.

Devils PostGame: The "We Had 'Em All the Way" Edition, NJ 6, ATL 5
Wow, what a cringeworthy game. But a large, large, large win.
Marty only stops 10 of 15, but the Devils win 6-5, as the Thrashers were much more inept than New Jersey. The Thrashers spent more than 30 Minutes of this game without shooting the puck.
Madden, Elias, Pando, Zajac, Sarge (!), and Patrick Elias once more, on a blistering one-timer on the power play. Remember when, during the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Rangers, they would show those videos of Patrick moving all around the ice during the playoffs in fast motion? It looked like a return to that, and a welcome one at that.
The offense carried the Devils tonight. Hang on, let me hand Satan my soul before I go on. The defense, and particularly Marty, were atrocious tonight. There is no way around it, Marty has to bounce back, and he no doubt will, because he is the best.
Hero of the Night: PATRICK ELIAS (!), 2 Goals, Assist, Game Winner, Return to Awesomeness
Bum of the Night: Marty Brodeur. Sorry Marty, the way this team plays, 10 out of 15 won't do it.
Asshole of the Night: Garnet Exelby for that dirty takedown of Zach Parise.
Around the League Tonight:
The Sabres are officially back. They beat the Capitals 7-3, two straight by a count of 13-3. Jaroslav Spacek scored twice, and Brian Campbell had 4 assists. Alex Ovechkin added his 3rd of the year in defeat.
Crosby nets two on Hockey Night in Canada and the Penguins beat the Leafs, 6-4. Maxime Talbot added a pair.
The Hurricanes are off to a very good start, as Carolina continues their roll in Montreal, winning 3-1 at Bell Centre. Matt Cullen scored the Game-Winner. Carolina's now 4-1-1.
Ottawa took down the Rangers, 3-1. Dany Heatley scored his 6th of the year, and Jaromir Jagr finally got #1 in the losing effort. Both NJ and NYR are 2-3-0 on the year.
Six different scorers led the Florida Panthers to their 2nd straight victory, as they dismantled the Lightning, 6-4. Vinny Prospal scored twice in defeat.
8 Different goal-scorers in the Music City, as Calgary and the Preds are tied at 4 after two frames.

Super Joe Sakic gave the Avs an early lead at home vs. Columbus.

Devils Spank Isles, 6-1
The Devils beat the Isles 6-1 tonight at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell, Ma. Brian Gionta took Wade Dubielewicz to school 3 times on the game, while John Madden added a pair and Travis Zajac chipped in one.
Richard Park scored the lone Isles goal.
The teams meet again on Saturday in Bridgeport.

Gotta Feel For Marty...
He gave us a chance to win tonight. Goals were CLEARLY, CLEARLY, CLEARLY not his fault, in fact the first one should've been a goaltender interference penalty.
But it's the rest of this team's fault. Their absolute unwillingness to take the body, or try to permeate the interior of the Ottawa defense, and just hope that the puck would go off Emery and make it into the net. We were awful tonight from goal crease out. Marty deserved a better effort from his team tonight, and that's why we lost. A half-ass effort could've beaten the Sens tonight, but the forwards and defense couldn't even come up with that.
Detroit-San Jose tonight at 10, enjoy that.

A Rather Large Win
Jersey Jim Dowd ladies and gentleman. What a goal that second strike was! Fakes the shot then slips it around the Eagle for the goal.
Dowd gets two to go along with David Clarkson's one. Parise and Zajac score in the shootout, Marty gets two outta three and the Devils get a big two points.

-Ottawa wins big as Tampa chokes on a chance to lead the Southeast, 7-2.
